Yavanna-mírë,[1] or Yavannamírë, was one of the seven evergreen Fragrant Trees brought to Númenor by the Eldar of Tol Eressëa as gifts of enrichment from the West. Like the others, Yavanna-mírë grew in the Númenórean province of Nísimaldar around the port of Eldalondë.[2]

It was noted for the globed and scarlet fruits that it produced. Like the others, Yavanna-mírë's flowers and leaves gave off sweet scents. Because it was never cultivated in Middle-earth, it was likely destroyed during the Downfall of Númenor. However, Yavanna-mírë may have been remembered in songs and tales along with the other Fragrant Trees.[2]

Etymology[]

Yavanna-mírë is a name in Quenya meaning "Jewel of Yavanna",[3] from yávanna ("fruit-gift")[4] and mírë ("gem;[5] jewel;[6] a treasure, precious thing").[7][8] Yavanna-mírë should be pronounced yah-van-na-meer-ay.
