- After the Ainulindalë, when the Ainur came to Arda, Melkor claims it for himself alone.[1][2]
- Manwë denies Melkor's claims and calls the many spirits (including Varda) to his own side from the deeps of Eä.[1][2]
- The First War of the Valar against Melkor begins, and Arda is marred by his evil.[1][2]
