Watol, or Watla, was a king of Leithian in earlier versions of J.R.R. Tolkien's legendarium.

History[]

Watol was King of Leithian, and his sons were called the Wætlingas. Watol commissioned Íring, the son of Ír, King of the Isle of Íverin, to build a road through his lands. Íring completed this in seven years, incurring the wrath of the Wætlingas. They swore that they could build an even better road in only three years. King Ír helped his son to keep the Wætlingas from achieving this, sending him "all kinds of secret evils". After the three years, Íring killed the Watol's sons, "despairing of his wager".[1]
