
War of Words: Soldier-Poets of the Somme is a BBC Two documentary, directed by Sebastian Barfield, concerning significant English poets who had fought in the Battle of the Somme, of the First World War in 1916, and its impact on their imagination and successive writings. These poets are J.R.R. Tolkien, Siegfried Sassoon, David Jones, Isaac Rosenberg, and Robert Graves.
90 minutes long, the documentary first aired in November 2014. It is narrated by famed actor Michael Sheen.
Tolkien scholar John Garth comments on Tolkien's role and experiences in the battle.
