Wídfara was a Man of Rohan during the Great War of the Ring.

Biography[]

Wídfara was born sometime in the late Third Age. He originated in the Wold of Rohan. He rode with King Théoden to the relief of Minas Tirith in the War of the Ring. He had a strong sense of the air, a sense he probably acquired from living in the grasslands of the Wold. After passing through the Drúadan Forest, he reported to his lord a change in the wind coming from the south that he believed was a sign of victory over the forces of darkness.[1] He fought in the ensuing Battle of the Pelennor Fields, and survived.

Etymology[]

Wídfara is Old English for "far, wide traveller".[citation needed]

In adaptations[]

In The Lord of the Rings Online, Wídfara comes from the Wold and is in service of Aldor Harding of the Northmarch and the Eastemnet. When a remote region of Wildermore stops sending messengers, Harding sends a group of riders to check on them, Wídfara and Harding's own son Léodwig among them. The group is ambushed and the few survivors are scattered. Wídfara's horse Windfoot is killed and he himself sustains a wound, after which he slowly makes it to the village of Scylfig on foot. There he is found by the party of the player, Gléowine and Horn, send by Harding to search for his son's group. Wídfara relates his tale but is no condition to provide aid and asks the player's group to search for Harding's son.

Wídfara later recovers from his wounds and returns to the Wold just in time to answer the muster of the Rohirrim. He rides with Harding's men to the summons and is met again by the player in the Drúadan Forest.
