Vinyamar by LuisFBejarano

Vinyamar, by LuisF. Bejarano

Vinyamar was a settlement built by Turgon in Nevrast on the slopes of Mount Taras at the beginning of the First Age.

Vinyamar apparently faced the sea. Vinyamar's population was primarily Ñoldor, with a large influx of Sindarin elves.[1]

History

Vinyamar was probably completed in the first few years of the First Age and was the first and therefore the oldest of the stone works built by the exiled Ñoldor of Aman. The city was abandoned about 125 years after the rising of the Sun at Ulmo's behest, who suggested to Turgon that he and his people seek a new home that would be hidden from the eyes of Morgoth.

Vinyamar was abandoned and fell into decay, but when Tuor was guided there by Ulmo he still found remnants of the great city.[2][3]

Etymology

Vinyamar was probably a Quenya word for "new home".[4]
