Just remembered some articles I've come across that can probably be deleted: Troll's bane, The Two Towers (1983 film), Template:OOU, and Template:Spoilers, and this category. Explanations should be at each location.

Glad you liked the new protection notice, btw. :)

--Bitterhand (talk) 03:18, April 1, 2020 (UTC)

Since we've started adding the category "Real people" to applicable articles, do you think should it be applied to every article about a real person, or can articles which are only under a category such as "Actors" supersede that since all actors are real people, if that makes sense? Also, I assume the plan is to replace the Real People category with the correctly capitalized, aforementioned category; if you'd like to delete it, I will start correcting that on applicable articles over the near future.

Another thought: if lists of trivia are fine in articles, is there any reason to keep the pertinent template as is?

Final note: Template:Infobox Character, Template:Infobox Locations, and Template:Book Infobox are all both unused and superseded by better templates.

Best wishes!

--Bitterhand (talk) 22:49, April 12, 2020 (UTC)

Sounds good; a giant task to be sure, but I can still replace that category as I come across it. Many of those articles probably need minor corrections, anyway.

Happy (late) Easter to you as well!

--Bitterhand (talk) 14:22, April 13, 2020 (UTC)

One other quick thing I just noticed; there is no such person as Angelimar, that article was erroneously created for the character Angelimir, which we do have an article for.

Page deletion request

Can you please delete this page and this page for me, as they create a conflict in my signature with another wiki.

Dwarves and vandals

Would you consider blocking User:Evildoesnotinformgood? He has repeatedly ignored my requests to stop adding made-up numbers to the Were-worms article.

Also, since the articles for 'Dwarves of the Iron Hills' and 'Dwarves of the Grey Mountains' have been deleted, do you think there's any point in recreating them? As far as I know, they're never referred to in the capitalized form, and little enough about them is known that the 'Inhabitants' section at the articles for those respective mountain ranges would include everything that's known. Dwarves of Erebor, Dwarves of Belegost, and Dwarves of Nogrod may fall into the same category as well.

Link Problem

I've been having a problem with links. While editing, when I try to link a page on the wiki to another page on the wiki, I use the add link button at the top, and then I copy and paste the link to the page I want. But when I test the link, it ends up as an invalid link. Do you know how I could fix this?

Thank you very much.

Non-canon locations

What would you think about moving most or all of the articles for non-canon locations created for ME Role Playing (such as Mistrand and Khurvasagh) to the wiki which exists for them? These are name-only locations as far as I know, and in my opinion aren't notable enough to keep here, especially given what we've codified under Content Parameters. If you're amenable to this, I'll be more than happy to take up the brunt of the work.

Hope all is well in your neck of the woods!

--Bitterhand (talk) 15:17, May 14, 2020 (UTC)

Sounds good! I noticed this category and this category are both entirely comprised of these places as well; there are several additional far north locations in Non-canon locations too.

References and Citation

Hi there, HiddenVale.

Could you please explain to me how the ref tag works, or point me to someone who can? I'm working on another wiki trying to set up a references system that can reference sources by title and chapter (in the case of prose sources). I noticed this wiki can do just this, and I hoped you could shed some light on the method by which this wiki can do what it can do. I have already set up a {ref} template (we call it {r} over there) that can cite all of our sources by title, and I was preparing to resign myself to the creation of a {ref} template for each individual chapter in each individual book. If there is any other method by which I can efficiently create such a template or ref HTML tag, your communication on this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Questionable articles

Just rediscovered Battle of the Barrow Downs; not sure if it's actually based on a real game or not. Additionally, out of the LOTRO articles that exist here, I thought Imlad Balchorth, Malenhad, Echad Mirobel, Myrkworth, and Urugarth may perhaps be deleted, since each is quite minor within the game.

Professor's Bookshelf Category

Hello HiddenVale,

I was wondering if we could add a category to the wiki for the Professor's Bookshelf book series. The series focuses on republishing texts in the same edition printing as Tolkien read (or likely read) during his lifetime. I have already finished Book 1 - The Song of the Nibelungs and really enjoyed it. References to the Lord of the Rings may be more conceptual rather than a direct connection in some cases, but I thought it would be a nice addition to the content here.

If you agree, can you advise on the best way to set this up? I want to be sure I do this correctly!

Non-canon dwarves

Hey, hope all is well! In the same vein as the role-playing locations which we've begun the process of removing, there's a large number of articles for dwarves from LOTRO that appear in a very limited capacity, and which their own wiki has near-identical articles for, such as Adwyn Flame-eye and Albryc Long-foot (most of the residents of this category fall under the same designations). Do you think these would be candidates for deletion?

Good morning!

Is there a notable distinction between Film Guides and Movie Guides? Noticed that both existed while creating the articles for The Hobbit Chronicles last week.

If you're interested, since the Discussion board seems to have increased significantly in size since its inception, what do you think about creating a few categories (possibly to include Announcements, News, and Theories)? Only admins can do that, evidently. It might also help to stratify worthwhile posts from those that aren't, as well as allow for locating specific types of posts easier.

Deleted Page

Sorry if this question was already asked, but as I was browsing the wiki I noticed that SR 1433 was deleted by you, as I was about to create it. What there a reason behind this, if you don't mind my asking.

Big Foox was here (Talk) 18:01, June 27, 2020 (UTC)

So I looked and I think the reason that 4 or 5 years are missing (including the page you deleted) is that no events appear in the annals. There may be sources elsewhere, but in the appendix of RK there are no annals for these years. If you know of another place these may appear, let me know.

San Diego Comic-Con panel

Hey HiddenVale!

I've messaged you over on Slack, but think you may not have logged in :P Basically wanted to mention that there will be a Middle-earth/Tolkien panel (“Dispatches from Middle-earth: What’s new for Tolkien fans”) as part of San Diego Comic-Con 2020.

The panel is happening tomorrow, Thursday - July 23, at 6:00 pm (Pacific Time). You may find more information visiting this link, which also seems to be the place to access the panel at the time.

Because of the pandemic, all panels and events are online for anyone to access this year, so I just wanted to check in and ask whether this is something you and the community will be watching (to cover news, etc.). It’s hard to say how relevant this will be in terms of new information, but there could be some mention of what's been going on with the filming of the new series going by the description of the panel.

If coverage of any news is something you need help with, feel free to drop me a message - happy to discuss anything.

Cheers! Playsonic2 09:04, July 22, 2020 (UTC)

Hello, just wanted to note that I'm a Content Team Member assigned to assist as well if you need content coverage help. I'm a huge fan of LotR (read Silmarillion/unfinished tales/etc) & would be happy to help if you need anything.
UrsuulTalkWRDate11:23 PM Wednesday, July 22, 2020 (UTC)

Hey again, after watching this panel I really didn't see all that much that's actionable/able to be added to the Wiki. If you see anything that looks important let me know & I can help to add it, but this was a very dry panel.
UrsuulTalkWRDate3:03 AM Friday, July 24, 2020 (UTC)

Hey HiddenVale! I dropped another message to you over on Slack recently, letting you know in here just in case (this one was for a slightly more private matter, otherwise I'd just have added it here directly). -Playsonic2 21:16, August 4, 2020 (UTC)

--TheWanderingRanger (Not all those who wander are lost) 03:45, August 19, 2020 (UTC)

Hi, HiddenVale!

So, first sorry  that I seem to offend you, but loving an image is different depending on each person's taste.
The most important thing is being close and loyal to what Tolkien explained.

To be reasonable. I must ask, how is that portrayal of Varda the "MOST INGENIOUS" as you said?

If you read all about Varda, you would know that it has not even an ounce of resemblenese to Varda as Tolkien explained.
-So great was her beauty to be explained in the words of men or of Elves...
-The light in her face...
-so bright and white she was called Snow-white
-Generally the Valar looked like Elves but in more beauty and splendor and majesty
But the image by Diamond star is more like a Gothic Dark elf, than being Varda. and it doesn't resemble Varda's ethereal beauty and majesty. also the way she drew it is very medicore as she just copy pasted pinterest crystal images on her head and the which also, Crystals have no relation to Varda at all.)
Instead this other picture by Sepi Donne on Deviantart, named "O'elbereth, we sing to thee" seemed much more loyal and ethereal. I follow that artist for some time and now and I feel like there is no more worthy version of Varda than this...

Hi HiddenVale

I noticed that the page for Peregrin Took states that Denethor threw himself off of Minas Tirith, in the "Guard of the Citadel" section. This is an addition from the movie but is not canon, as in the book he burns himself in the Hallows of Minas Tirith. As it is a protected page I can't edit it, but I thought I'd bring it to your attention.

I've edited Sauron's page due to him being in the Lego Batman Movie, and it not being listed under films.

hi so I wanted to do a poll but when I created one the next button stayedd pale and I could not post it am I doing something wrong?

Page Duplicates?

I think I've found two lists of userboxes that apparently serve the same purpose but have different URLs. There is this one, and then this is the other one. The former appears to be a little more extensive than the latter. Just thought I'd bring this to your attention. :)

Migration to the UCP

Hello HiddenVale!

You may see a banner notification at the top area of the wiki indicating it is set to be migrated onto the UCP soon. I know I have already shared some information about the UCP with you in the past, but just thought I'd let you know I created a post on Discussions just so it's generally known by anyone who visits, and in case users want a place to share any questions or feedback.

I will also be here to provide any assistance I can if necessary during/after the migration (such as if anything isn't displaying as it should).

(Also, quick note: I was "Playsonic2" before, but changed my username on Fandom recently.)

See you! - ReverieCode 14:53, October 1, 2020 (UTC)

Infobox images captions

Hi, I have a question about the infobox image captions. I notice on some pages, I can't see the full caption written in the source but on others I can. For example Aragorn II Elessar I see the full caption "Viggo Mortensen portrays Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings film trilogy," but on Thranduil I only see "portrays Thranduil in," even though the full caption is written in the source. This happens for me on some other pages, like Frodo Baggins. Do you know if this is just a problem with how things are displaying on my computer? Thank you. Slack message

Hey HiddenVale! I sent you an important message via Slack, in relation to your work on LOTR Wiki. Pinging you here just to make sure that's seen when you get a chance, as it's a bit time sensitive - feel free to reply through there :) Thanks! ReverieCode 12:44, 4 December 2020 (UTC)

Hey, hope all is well! With regard to not including characters that are only mentioned in an 'Appearances' section, would you be open to letting them stay if we amend the header to be inclusive of that fact, or creating a separate section? I like the feature of recording mentions; Wookiepedia does the same and I've found it quite interesting.

On a completely unrelated note, would you look into undeleting Deathless? While non-canon, it is actually a thing. I'll take whatever improvement steps are needed for it.

Hope your advent season is off to a great start!

End of year feedback

Hello again! As this year comes to a close, Fandom is thinking about how to move forward in 2021, and in order to do that, we would like to reflect back on our work in 2020. That’s why I’m reaching out to you - we’d love to hear your opinion about the work that we’ve done in previous months. We’ve had a lot of major changes this year, and we would like to continue working in the right direction and find solutions to any problems you may have. Your voice is vital in making that happen.

We would greatly appreciate you filling out this form with your feedback about your experience on the platform this year, so we can get a sense of how we did, how we can improve, and what our focus should be for 2021. This survey will be totally anonymous, so we encourage you to be as honest and constructive as possible. (The invitation to fill this is extended to others on the wiki as well, such as other admins.)

Thank you in advance for taking the time to provide us with your thoughts and feedback - and thanks also for all of your continued hard work on Fandom. We wish you the happiest of holidays! ReverieCode 11:48, 14 December 2020 (UTC)

Hey HiddenVale! Fandom sent in some emails to users regarding this year’s virtual Community Connect. You should have received an email with an invite - if you can’t see it, these seem to be hitting a lot of people’s spam folders, so it might be in there. (If you do find it, feel free to RSVP so that they can know whether or not you’ll be able to tune in - as if you can't, we may be able to invite another awesome editor yet).
There should be more information on the email itself, but basically the Connect - which, I have to stress is virtual this year, of course - will be taking place on March 6th and 7th. There’s also a blog post with additional details here:
Hope we get to see you in there! ReverieCode 20:07, 30 January 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for pulling me up on that, I'm mostly editing from memory as my books are in secure storage on the other side of the country. The Atlas of Middle-Earth was my source but I'm not too sure whether Dorwinion was part of Gondor or not as Tolkien was vague about it. Dorwinion is to the west of the Sea of Rhun, which fits with the East-lands reaching the sea of Rhun, but the location of the northern border was pretty vague and Dorwinion may or may not have been part of Gondor. Also I may have made a mistake switching the Defense of Osgiliath & Minas Anor to just the defense of Osgiliath. From memory I don't recall Minas Anor being attacked during the War of the Last Alliance and again Tolkien doesn't go into detail, but it's possible I might have forgotten a passage where the city's name is mentioned. As Sauron's forces failed to capture Osgiliath and indeed were driven back into Mordor it doesn't seem likely that there was an attack, but it is possible I've forgotten something. Hey HiddenVale, I'm Alex, here to replace ReverieCode as the Wiki Manager here (now called WikiRep). I can assist you as ReverieCode once did, be it with technical issues or any newfound social issues that arise, & you can send feedback to Fandom through me if you wish. I'll be around if you need me, maybe posting on occasion in Discussions with fellow LotR fanatics, so feel free to reach out anytime here or on Discord @ Ursuul#0575, cheers.

Seventh Age article and its maker

This page (Seventh age) has proven of no use to this fandom, having zero relevance to the works of J.R.R. Tolkien; thus, I recommend this article be deleted promptly. Moreover, I also recommend blocking the suspicious user — user:131073a — who created the article. The user has no name, picture, or description and has created one — faulty — page, confirming the user's little to no value to this Wiki.

Kind regards, Thomas aka User:Olorin1397

Thank You!

Thank you for the heads up on formatting, it's been year since I used the wikia/fandom layout, and it appears I've forgotten some things. Merry's books might just need to be merged into his page, but I'll leave that up to more seasoned members once the pages are done and fleshed out (: NomrahFumo (talk) 08:10, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

I have a question. For pages involving years (e.g. TA 3019), are we required to cite sources? I'm only asking this because I noticed that some pages had references, and some did not.

P.S. What am I supposed to put at the end of these?

I would like to report Campfire001 for editing my user profile page without my permission. It was a very small change, but nevertheless was against wiki rules (and I made no indication that I desired an edit of my user profile page).

Deeping Wall

Hello, apologies for reverting an edit of yours, I felt strongly that your approach on this article was not correct and still do, please see the Talk:Deeping Wall page for details. Gondorian2012 (talk) 20:19, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

For whatever reason, the new update to the wiki rendered many of the header templates much larger than they were previously; I've edited the code to return most to a tidy size, but Template:NonCanon is admin-protected. Changing the "padding" to 2px, "border-radius" to 3px, and font size for both "!"s to 50px seemed to work well for me.

Also are you aware of any context for Battle of the Barrow Downs? Not sure if that is non-canon or fanon.
