(Your'e welcome) Wow - I completely did not notice how far you've come on here. Welcome! It is actually nice to have an actual always-active user on here again; big people on this Wiki in the past seem to have all "left" now, except for our only Administrator, DarkLantern. It was beginning to get lonely. HiddenVale 05:05, October 11, 2012 (UTC)

Awards for contributions

Thanks for your categorying image files and your contributions. You may place what is below on your Userpage.--DarkLantern (talk) 12:17, October 12, 2012 (UTC)

For your categorying image files and contributions I award you this barnstar. Thanks! --DarkLantern

On being an Admin

Yes, you have a point that very few Admins are active here but you don't need to be an Admin to rename files and organize them. I would however like to give you rollback rights in which you can instant revoke any bad edit or false edit or vandalism as for being an Admin I'd have to think it over. You must realize that there are others that have been with the community for much longer then you like User:Wyvern Rex. and User:Nognix so my grants cannot just be instant. Like I said I'll said I'll think on it but let me know if you will accept ROLLBACK rights.--DarkLantern (talk) 21:51, October 31, 2012 (UTC)

You now possess Rollback rights. Good work! You might want to consider categorizing your Userpage if you intend to remain here as part of the community of active contributors like so: Category:Active contributors to this site.--DarkLantern (talk) 05:43, November 1, 2012 (UTC)
Show me what the changes you intend to make to these templates before DOING it first. No offense, but the last time someone edited an important template it didn't work out right. Those templates are pretty firmly lay-out and excepted as they are. Leave a sample of the code on my page and if it looks acceptable, I'll allow the changes permanently. Good luck with it!--DarkLantern (talk) 06:34, November 1, 2012 (UTC)
I like it good work! Only one thing though, I don't know want that Dragon Slayer link is all about but you CANNOT have that in there.--DarkLantern (talk) 07:30, November 1, 2012 (UTC)
Very good then. You can start adding them to the appropriate pages.--DarkLantern (talk) 07:58, November 1, 2012 (UTC)
Replace it but let us proceed at a steady pace with changing any other templates, they don't all necessarily need to be replaced all at once or at all.--DarkLantern (talk) 08:42, November 1, 2012 (UTC)

Two things

First-ly - congratulations on your work! You've done the amount of edits in 1.5 months that I'd do in 6 months, even when both of us are on other websites. (I'm probably on more) That's a very fast editing rate! But then, I only am active on weekends and on Wednesday.... You might even be the next Administrator in a few years, which is a big duty here.

Secondly - on your profile it says you haven't read the LOTR books, or any others. 0_0 That's surprising. If you haven't, you really should (no pressure) well as The Hobbit. If you have read them in fact.... should obviously change the statement on your profile. Again, spectacular work! HiddenVale 23:14, November 8, 2012 (UTC)

Your'e very welcome. Whoa- now you're at 803 edits. What labor! The Hobbit is overlooked and underestimated by many people who read it, but as a prelude to LOTR it is full of meaning. At my school there's a (small) Tolkein Harkness-Group that I'm a part of and we're doing this book first, as it happened before the Trilogy. If you however were to read the trilogy before the Hobbit, The Hobbit would be very blurry and/or mundane - its significance would not stand out to the reader. It's good you read that one first. (Watching the movies before reading the trilogy is a whole other problem....) As long as the movies don't crowd your mind so that when you read the books you become confused, you're fine. And now I'll stop blabbing. HiddenVale 17:43, November 9, 2012 (UTC)

Oh good. To keep in mind, The Silmarillion is more of a history book, with many plot-lines that are on what happens in creation and the whole of the First Age (and dates are rarely mentioned). When you read that book will not affect anything else, that's an upside of it. It has many tragedies and has a style like the Bible and like Homer's Iliad (if you know what that story is like). HiddenVale 00:35, November 11, 2012 (UTC)

Request for participation

Great work so far! It would be nice if you could vote and/or give your opinion on the Forum:Articles to be merged and LOTR:Articles for deletion. I'd like to conclude those issues. Thank you.--DarkLantern (talk) 16:26, December 1, 2012 (UTC)

Figwit and Lindir situation

We will wait for the official conformation. Thanks for the information.--DarkLantern (talk) 14:38, December 15, 2012 (UTC)

About the merging-articles forum

Since you make up at least one fourth of all the work being done on the Wiki right now, be sure to take a look at Forum: Articles to be Merged, especially the discussion on the Goblin page, and the merging of Giant-information; and then put down your vote, if you have an opinion.  Thanks, HiddenVale 03:10, January 22, 2013 (UTC)

Thank You

Thank you for telling what date the Hobbit CD is coming out.

Sharkey1399 (talk) 04:06, January 26, 2013 (UTC)

Gollum is happy to find out about the CD.

On Ekukanova of Deviantart's works

You can't post her art here my friend! I know her through e-mails on permission to display her works and I know she would not want anyone displaying it without permission. She gave me permission to display three see: Melian of her works under strict conditions. I am sorry I will have to delete [[File:Beleg and Turin in Doriath by Ekukanova.jpg]]!--DarkLantern (talk) 04:42, February 25, 2013 (UTC)

A lot Deviantart people don't actually say they do or don't but some do but I prefer to ask for permission first and others should as well. As for some of the others here, I don't know where some came from or whether whoever created them would have allowed it nor can I prove whoever uploaded it did or did not ask for permission. I am acting on my personal knowledge of this artist. She would not have wanted her works posted anywhere without permission because she is a professional artist.--DarkLantern (talk) 05:59, February 25, 2013 (UTC)

On LOTR Chapters template

Good idea! You can use it.--DarkLantern (talk) 11:17, March 3, 2013 (UTC)

More amazing-ness

I would not be suprised if another user had put that Edits-so-far infobox on your Profile Page. The next person to become a new Administrator on here will certainly be you. Major kudos, HiddenVale 23:25, April 10, 2013 (UTC)

Oh and speaking of Templates regarding the amount of one's work, feel free to put  Template:Active (in braces) as well on your User-page, to differentiate those that have done many edits and left (e.g. Gradivus for some reason) and those that presently are still big-time workers like you. :)  HiddenVale - TalkPage 00:28, July 8, 2013 (UTC)

Thank you

I just to thank you for participating in the improvement drive. My objective is to turn it public (as in Articles Attack) once the current one is dealt with. Hence why so far, it's only linked in my user page. Winterz (talk) 14:29, May 10, 2013 (UTC)

Your favorite task

Say since you've been the WIki's picture-categorizer, could you go through the pictures I've added shown in the Slideshow on my User-page and do so, for the sake of progress?  Thank you! HiddenVale (talk) 01:00, July 7, 2013 (UTC)

Oh my, you might as well be made Administrator someday just because of your extraordinary benignness! Thank you! HiddenVale - HV logo.png MyTalkPage 00:59, July 11, 2013 (UTC)

Please add photo Khamûl before got the ring. (Matthew Bowyer Fan (talk) 13:52, September 7, 2013 (UTC))

Hmmm surely by now....

OK how are you not an Administrator yet?'ve even received a barnstar and I have not. And, above all, your larger edit count, plus you are more active than I am! I shall notify DarkLantern of what I think he's been overlooking. Don't get why he had made me an Admin. and even a Bereaucrat before he would you. ;)  HiddenVale - HV logo.png MyTalkPage 05:06, October 23, 2013 (UTC)

referencing original artists

Hi, I don't mean this in a rude way but why is the artwork (the illustration of nienor in particular) not referenced back to the original artist or at least to where you found it? 01:05, November 5, 2013 (UTC)

Gosh! I still can't believe your not an Admin yet! There seriously needs to be more people in charge here or else this wikia might go down like a sinking ship. If there's a vote page for admin I'd vote for ya! :P

Dairyman88 (talk) 17:23, November 11, 2013 (UTC)

There IS "a vote page for admin". Find it in "Recent Changes". -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 07:01, December 8, 2013 (UTC)

Hi. I see you added info about the new Hobbit movie. Where did you see it? I saw it Monday night in a special advance screening in NYC, but it doesn't open here until the 13th. Since it's not yet been released in many places, I think we should use SPOILER ALERT:  for a while before disclosures of significant plot elements of the new film. - Gradivus, 14:52, December 11, 2013 (UTC)

  • Actually there's already a couple templates for that function. You may use {{Spoiler}} (or {{Spoilers}}, whatever suits you best) at the start and then end the spoiler section with {{Endspoiler}}. You should avoid touching the fonts like Gradivus proposed, that's the whole purpose of templates, otherwise it's going to get very diverse here, if you know what I mean. Winterz (talk) 15:47, December 11, 2013 (UTC)
  • Thanks! Existing templates be a good idea. ;-) - Gradivus, 02:32, December 12, 2013 (UTC)

Capitalizing titles in citations

For capitalizing titles, always use Title Case. Capitalize the principal words, including prepositions and conjunctions of four or more letters. Capitalize an article (the, a, an) only if it is the first or last word of the title. Never capitalize mid-title articles, prepositions, or coordinating conjunctions (and, but, or, for, nor). - Gradivus, 14:56, December 15, 2013 (UTC)

The above information is from the Associated Press Stylebook and the Chicago Manual of Style. - Gradivus, 14:56, December 15, 2013 (UTC)
  • If a title is also a link to a reference page which must be capitalized just so, you can keep the capitalization rules while allowing the link, like this: [[Flies And Spiders|Flies and Spiders]] - Gradivus, 15:42, December 15, 2013 (UTC)

Removed message

Because I realized all that code was just there to make your fancy little signature boxes, not from using Visual mode, thereby rending the question moot. - Gradivus, 07:03, December 20, 2013 (UTC)

On Support

After having a conversation with Robin Patterson, I have decided I will cast my vote for you as administrator here. You know the rules and understand them. You do don't you? You are here virtually everyday and that is what we need given the fact that the majority are retired or inactive. What do you say?--DarkLantern (talk) 20:40, December 20, 2013 (UTC)

She's a bit weak at grammar, but that's not so important in administration. I think she'd be a very good administrator. - Gradivus, 20:59, December 20, 2013 (UTC)
Yes, I am interested. Thank you for the support and consideration. Whatever I lack in grammar, I am sure Gradivus will make up for it. :)    Darkchylde   Talk      03:42, December 21, 2013 (UTC)
  • LOL - Gradivus, 05:08, December 23, 2013 (UTC)

You wrote, "Should we really keep this? It is a presumed type of elk."
Sure, why not keep it! In comparison to stupid pages of ordinary creatures (rabbits, dear, etc.) which nobody needs an explanation of, a page that tell where the makers of the movie got the idea or looks for a strange looking creature that was used in a major Tolkien film adaptation seems relevant, or at least interesting to Tolkien fans. Oliphants are another example, although that one is canon.
On the other hand, what's there now pretty much says it all. Do we really want to put the "Stub" notice to get people to expand it? The external link to Wikipedia should suffice if anyone wants more detail about the animal – I don't think there's anything more that could be said about the Tolkien connection. - Gradivus, 05:08, December 23, 2013 (UTC)

You're right, it would be better if we had some sort of citation from the makers themselves. As for Tolkien lore, I don't think it's any kind of Tolkien lore - did Tolkien ever write about elves mounted on elks? I don't think anyone "presumed" it except Peter Jackson probably wanted something cool for the Elf-king to ride on. He may have been inspired by the skeleton of a Megaloceros that's in New Zealand's Christchurch museum. - Gradivus, 05:31, December 23, 2013 (UTC)
  • Why'd you shrink my photo? I thought it looked good like that. - Gradivus, 06:33, December 23, 2013 (UTC)

"Elvish" Elk

Can elk be of the Elven race? I don't think so. Why don't we use the more common term "Irish Elk" since elk are not Elves, and anyway we're supposed to use the more common English language term per LOTR:Current policies. Or is Elven Elk "the most popular or recognized" name? If there's good evidence for that, I'd buy it. And actually, since I've heard the term Cherokee pony used, I guess Elven Elk could be legitimate terminology -- but wait, how about Emyn Duir elk? - Gradivus, 13:45, December 25, 2013 (UTC)

I answered you on my talk page, and then I moved the conversation to the Thranduil talk page to keep it coherent. - Gradivus, 15:20, December 25, 2013 (UTC)

You will soon be admin

Well, I think I've seen enough. You Ms. Darkchylde will be the next admin here very soon. You are most active here and concerned with organization and policy. I just thought I might tell you some things about things. These powers will give you access to a few fully protected things most notably the Main Page. I ask that you be very careful when you edit this if you do. It will also give you access to the rules. I ask that if you want to add a rule please consult me first before adding it as I was the first to scroll them down, we should work in concert because two admins in agreement would make the rule more absolute.

As you know, the wiki is vandalized everyday (mostly by anons) you will face an onslaught of it an some or many may have to be blocked. You also should vote on Forum:Articles to be merged and LOTR:Articles for deletion also new rules for how long these merging and deletion should drawn up as long these issues can stay up, as many have been up for years and I'll next your input on it. How does this sound to you?--DarkLantern (talk) 15:34, January 1, 2014 (UTC)

You don't need to put the full "{{Template:Infobox Person High Elves" just "{{Infobox Person High Elves". It will work.--DarkLantern (talk) 12:22, January 2, 2014 (UTC)

The Infobox automatically generates [[Category:Non-canonical characters]] so you don't need to have it on the page twice and you are still putting 'Template': in the Infobox Person box when it is not required.--DarkLantern (talk) 10:34, January 3, 2014 (UTC)
{{Infobox Person Men | image = (just the name to the file i.e. Aragorn3.jpg) | caption = | name = | othernames = | title = | birth = | rule = (for Kings and Queens only) | death = | realms = (for Kings and Queens only) | spouse = | weapon = | race = | culture = | gender = | height = | hair = | eyes = | actor = | voice = | character = }}
{{Infobox Non-canonical Character |Name=NAME |Image=IMAGE FILE |Caption=IMAGE CAPTION |AKA=OTHER NAMES |Race=RACE |Lifespan=LIFESPAN |Gender=MALE/FEMALE |Realm=REALM |Culture=CULTURE |Weapon=WEAPON(S) |Actor=FILM ACTOR |Voice=FILM VOICE }}

See this page as well. Will this help?--DarkLantern (talk) 11:25, January 3, 2014 (UTC)

You are now an administrator of this Wiki. Obey the rules and be fair and you'll make it. I approve of your family tree line. You can start using it as soon as possible.--DarkLantern (talk) 14:30, January 3, 2014 (UTC)

I like your family tree line but it should have a Header like the old one ==House of Fingolfin== or ==House of Fingolfin Family Tree==--DarkLantern (talk) 18:00, January 3, 2014 (UTC)
Oh, I forgot to tell you that you must place this: {{Admin}} on your homepage somewhere.--DarkLantern (talk) 19:16, January 5, 2014 (UTC)

Go get 'em, kid! Now I'll be able to pester you to block the vandals I have to keep rolling back over and over because they won't stop. ;) - Gradivus, 18:05, January 3, 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for posting the image of Peter Jackson's cameo in The Fellowship of the Ring,  so can you post some more images of his cameos from The Two Towers to The Desolation of Smaug as well as the other cameos from the previous movies and the new one out in theatres please ( 22:01, January 3, 2014 (UTC))?

My apologies; it turns out you were right (at least partially) about Elvenking. I was looking at the early chapters of The Hobbit, in which only king and elf-king were used. But in the final chapters, after Smaug had been killed, Tolkien dispensed with elf-king and used Elvenking. I'm guessing he wrote the two portions of the book at significantly different times. I've updated the relevant Thranduil and its Talk pages. (Respond here if you like, for continuity of discussion, rather than on my talk page.) - Gradivus, 18:36, January 4, 2014 (UTC)

On New Policy template

Very good, but the Citations for References isn't finished yet and until it is and it is decided how and where to put it or link it to, please do not link it to anywhere as yet. Thanks.--DarkLantern (talk) 05:38, January 8, 2014 (UTC)

What do you think of the Citations for References so far?--DarkLantern (talk) 10:41, January 10, 2014 (UTC)

Categorizing Templates

Nice work! Would you please categorize those Family templates your created.

Add this BELOW the script (vertically not linear).

<noinclude> ==Usage== <pre> {{House of Farin}} </pre> [[Category:Family tree Templates]] </noinclude>

Note DON'T include the these though: <nowiki></nowiki>

Formatting of Citations

  • Thanks for the kudos. We still need to iron out some internal consistencies on how and when to italicize the various parts of the references, especially words in section identifiers, like: [Vol. 9, Book 5, Second Phase:, Part Four, Chapter IV:, XII, and B:]. See DarkLantern's Talk page for further discussion.)
  • Incidentally, is there a forum where editors can discuss and hash out these types of matters? If so, the forum available to all editors or is it available only to administrators?
- Gradivus, 14:46, January 11, 2014 (UTC)

Not decided yet

I glad you've shown interest in doing the new references but the Unfinished Tales format has NOT been fully completed or decided for now. I would ask that you halt any further uses of it yet. Thanks.--DarkLantern (talk) 12:55, January 12, 2014 (UTC)

Ideas for you

Perhaps you can work on changing the primitive looking Family tree templates online on these pages [[House of Anárion]], [[House of Telcontar]], [[House of Haleth]], [[House of Húrin]][[House of Marach]], [[House of Eorl]], and [[House of Bëor]]. The lineage at the King of Númenor page messed for some reason.--DarkLantern (talk) 13:20, January 12, 2014 (UTC)

The House of Dol Amroth was never a Lineage template but should be made into one using your lineage style see: Imrahil. The {{Tolkien}} Linage doesn't look all that great either.--DarkLantern (talk) 05:49, April 11, 2014 (UTC)

Admin attention needed to fix vandalism

New user User:Yourdadsdad apparently vandalized Orthanc, causing it to redirect to Blog:Happy PLace !!!!!!!! (which now contains some – but not all – of what was apparently formerly at Orthanc, and without admin tools I don't know how to fix either of them. He's also messed up The Hobbit the same way. The ransacked pages don't even seem to have any History left that I can use to restore them. - Gradivus, 20:52, January 14, 2014 (UTC)

15:12, 14 January 2014‎ Yourdadsdad (Talk | contribs)‎ . . (39 bytes) (+39)‎ . . (Yourdadsdad moved page Orthanc to Blog:Happy PLace !!!!!!!!)

  • Update: Looks like User:Robin Patterson is taking care of it. :) The vandal had turned the ransacked pages to Blog pages and there didn't seem to be any way to edit those. - Gradivus, 01:44, January 15, 2014 (UTC)

How can strive of administrations on this wiki?:)

Thanking spammers and vandals - not good

I do not think that it is a good idea to thank a new contributor for an edit that might be the most dreadful spam or vandalism. Welcome the person but do not thank them for something you have not seen.

Robin Patterson (Talk) 04:18, February 15, 2014 (UTC)

Really great work with everything! May I suggest you LOCK (Full Protection) your Homepage and place {{Fully-protected}} on it as a warning given all the vile vandals you and I have struck down lately, they as other names may despoil your homepage as they once did to me a while back.

Another thing is that I suggest renaming {{Line of Merry Brandybuck}} and {{Line of Peregrin Took}} to just Line of Tooks and Line of Brandybucks. Those whole families don't revolve around Pippin and Merry do they?--DarkLantern (talk) 20:26, February 15, 2014 (UTC)

May I ask you why did you revert the Eärendil changes concerning the page image?

May I ask you why did you revert the Eärendil changes concerning the page image?

Forgot to log-in the last time I asked this.

RE: Eärendil

I decided to add it in the bottom of the page since Eärendil lacks of ilustrations. And yes, it does look like legolas since he was a model for the edition of the image. But still gets original by having certain facial and background modifications. I hope you accept the picture this time, not as a replacement for the other but as an addition to the page because it realy is important to me. Thanks

Pretty much only the head model is from orlando bloom. The hair is a generic elf one and the face details are different. But I do understand your point of view.

Gandalf page

Remember, this is not the Tolkien Gateway. I would only be in favour of a creation of an ===In Video games=== header under Portrayal in adaptions section in which all those video game powers things would go under. Those video game things may be long but they have every right to be there according to the rules. Unless you've got an alternative plan.--DarkLantern (talk) 07:11, February 25, 2014 (UTC)

Those video game headers may make the page look long but they are not breaking any rule themselves. There only thing that is breaking the rules is not placing them under the ==Portrayal in adaptations== sections under ===In Video games===, so just do that but don't remove those skills headers.--DarkLantern (talk) 16:13, February 27, 2014 (UTC)

Hay, do you have a list of requirements to be a admin?

Speedy Deletion policy

Although, I suspect those articles your deleted that I marked for speedy deletion were bogus the rules clearly state a maximum of three days being allowed for the writer to justify it. Please observe that.

A private issue

Hello Darkchylde,

I am contacting you to speak about an issue that arose on here some days ago now, though i would prefer not go into details in public. Is there any way we could speak privately without me having to become a user? I would be very appreciative if there is a way to.

I hope you are able to respond in the near future,

Thank you :). 13:29, March 10, 2014 (UTC)

Hello again,

In the assumption you have read my second message (which i've now edited out for this message), i do wish to say that i have scrutinized the features i can see on here so that i know for sure if there is or isn't a 'history' section for the message, but there doesn't appear to be one. Please correct me if i'm wrong on that, but if there isn't a history section and editing out my address would do the trick then i am a little more inclined to go through with the idea of giving it to you then deleting it when i know you have it, though it is still worrying. Of course, i am still open to the two other ideas i thought of (being that if you are comfortable enough you could give me your e-mail address, or i could create an e-mail account just for this), but it is better to have your view on this before anything else.

Thank you. 15:06, March 13, 2014 (UTC)

On House of Beor template

The {{House of Bëor}} lineage template has yet to be overhauled with your new linage template format.--DarkLantern (talk) 15:41, March 17, 2014 (UTC)

Template:Tolkien should also be updated as well.--DarkLantern (talk) 15:44, March 17, 2014 (UTC)

Thank you very much for your help! :) I have read sillmarilion, but not unfinished tales, it is mainly because I don ´t really have time now, because I am in the last year of gymnasium and I have really lot of work ahead of me. :/ But thank you for you advice and when I will have them time I will definitely read it. :)

If you are talking about User:, I did warn her see: User talk: but she did it again anyway so I placed a three day block on this anon for failing to comply. I believe I made the right decision. I stand by it. Yes, Wargs in Peter Jackson's films and Warg should be merged.

Also, the rules or suggestions of wiki say that you should only Protect pages if it is necessary not just after only one vandalism or two. All the pages I protected were due constant attacks by bad anons see: List of characters, the importance or sensitivity of the character of person and the info there see: J.R.R. Tolkien which is very venerable to damage, and finally the shear trouble it took me to remove the damage caused by a bad anon's vandalisms. We should not protect ever page hit by a bad anon instantly because that would be unfair to good anons. The decision to protect a page should carefully weighed not just done on an instant. A good solid block on them will do but if the page is hit again and again or heavily damaged then yes it should be protected from anons. Does that make any sense?--DarkLantern (talk) 10:59, March 27, 2014 (UTC)

On Navigation headers

I don't think those Navigation headers on Example {{Ainur}} are really needed. People can clearly see what it is and how to use it.--DarkLantern (talk) 21:12, April 5, 2014 (UTC)

The User: problem

I cannot for the life of me understand User:'s problem at all. I told her over and over again about the reason for her sanction weeks ago. I also said twice that I did not believe she was a bad anon after all. I also invited her to continue editing peacefully but she would not accept that. She accused me of shouting and being rude. I don't believe I was nor do I think I am. Do you understand this person's behavior or motives?--DarkLantern (talk) 21:02, April 7, 2014 (UTC)

It has never been made into a policy how long a page can stay open for merging. It has always been a matter of votes on it and afterwards the merge is done by whoever does it, and it has usually been me in the last nearly five years. It took nearly two years for the the 'War of the Rings Battles' to be merged even after I offered a reward to the person who would merge it, so in the end I had to do it. 'Lack of participation' is the real problem these things don't get merged even after they are decided. How will you merge Glorfindel?

As for User:'s problem, I never wanted her content erased after its merging her removing the merge message twice is what caused her to blocked. I tried to make amends and explain but it didn't really work. Your right about showing more patience to well meaning anons the ones who don't vandalize or remove content of course.--DarkLantern (talk) 04:45, April 8, 2014 (UTC)

The Welcome message

Shadow of Mordor Event Opportunity

I'm Jorge from Wikia's Community Development team. Thanks to our partnership with Monolith, we've got an upcoming opportunity with Shadow of Mordor I thought you might be interested. Some time in mid-may, we'll be doing a virtual event with some Monolith folks and we would love to invite you to participate.

It should only take a couple of hours over a few days and we can work with your schedule. During the event, you'll be able to check out some behind-the-scenes content related to Shadow of Mordor, and we'd love to have some experts attend the event. If this sounds like something you're interested in, let me know via email ( and I'll add you to our list and get in touch with more information as soon as it's available!

All the best, Jorge (profile)•(talk) 21:46, April 18, 2014 (UTC)

Hey Darkchylde, just a poke in case you missed this message. Thanks, Jorge (profile)•(talk) 16:32, May 19, 2014 (UTC)

Whoa, have I been absent or what. You're an administrator! Meaning administration is now in its proper place.

Congratulations DarkChylde! Lol, you were already a gigantic pillar of contributional progress here.

YT 1130 and Half-elves template

I know that I have placed these Years of the Trees dates on characters but it would be nice to have references on these things as well. I lack the complete The History of Middle-earth to completely prove it but the Tolkien Gateway and Annals of Arda ( explain these early complex datings. If we are going to be a Tolkien Wiki of rules then one (me) must ask where you got that information from. I to will check there (Annals of Arda) for Valian, Years of the Lamps, and Years of the Trees dates.

Oh, I see you have already placed your proof on some example: Fingolfin but it would be good to see them at the year articles as well.--DarkLantern (talk) 04:39, April 22, 2014 (UTC)

I can create the Half-elven Infobox but I'll need a colour scheme.--DarkLantern (talk) 04:35, April 22, 2014 (UTC)

On House of Haleth

I found another lineage template that has not been revised: House of Haleth. I think you might want rework it leaving the header ==House of Haleth== there like the others.--DarkLantern (talk) 13:06, April 24, 2014 (UTC)

On Silmarillion boxes

Good idea! I think it is alright. May be one day for the other books as well Example: Unfinished Tales.--DarkLantern (talk) 03:02, April 26, 2014 (UTC)

On Reference Popups and future challenges

Your Reference Popups work well. I've seen them on the skin I'm using. It would be helpful to create Lineages templates for Hobbit families. Understandably a big job but it would be very helpful to the wiki. Thoughts?

Need of a City/Towns/Villages template

The {{Template:Infobox LOTR place}} is old, obsolete, and primitive; more like a Jumped-up table. I was wondering if you could design a better one solely for Cities/Towns/Villages. If you agree, the 'Infobox LOTR place' will be retired and {{Template:Location infobox}} will be used for all other places such as Regions, Realms, hills, etc...--DarkLantern (talk) 04:19, May 12, 2014 (UTC)

Very good. '|lord=' should be changed to '|Ruler=' and '|built=' should be changed to '|Founded/Built='--DarkLantern (talk) 05:47, May 12, 2014 (UTC)
Slight problem in the code of {{Template:Location infobox}}. The '|names=' section does not conform with the others and is causing a distorted infobox, or it may have something to do with the image. I can't tell. See Arnor.
I think you should add '|Spoken Language(s)=' to Location infobox.--DarkLantern (talk) 17:59, May 13, 2014 (UTC)
On {{Template:Location infobox}}, when there is no image it shows this: [[File:|250px]] see: Belegost. Is then anything you can do to make it not appear when there is no image?

About images of Fire-drake on Gondolin

Thank you for cleaning up images! I wasn't aware of doing so. DreamBrisdin 20:08, May 12, 2014 (UTC)

Hi, thank you for editing and I appreciate your daily edits very much. About images of Fire-drake of Gondolin, I actually want to change to images I choose. I know this is very rude to you, the creator of the article, and I really appreciate you did so to write the page.

The reason I concern about images and feel not agreeing is that I don't see any wrongs to put an image on profile which focus on individual, not the whole scene, and through searching John Howe's images online, I was actually confused if the image you uploaded is actually inverted from original or not. If this article was about pack of dragons, I agree to put the profile image you choose, but if I'm correct, this page is about individual character.

Again, I really appreciate your works and I know I'm the wrong, but please point out wrongs and make me understand.

DreamBrisdin 17:51, May 14, 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for civil reply. I agree everything with you, and I suppose we can create gallery as long as more images are obtained, but as you know, we don't see many variants of images about this dragon on internet so far, so it may or may not take some time to carry out.

Anyway, again, thank you very much for everything. DreamBrisdin 05:22, May 16, 2014 (UTC)

Advice needed

As this is a 'Book First' Tolkien Mythology Wiki the issue of page layout has come up again. The issue was inspired by your re-layout of Non-canon people like Tauriel. I fully agree with this now with things like no 'Biography' and a 'Portrayal in adaptations' sections only. But what of the Canon people layout? The questions are this. Where should the 'Family Lineage'. 'Ruling lineage sequences', and the many navigation templates on a character like Aragorn II Elessar that have been Portrayed in many adaptations be at, above the 'Portrayal in adaptations' or below them like what has always been done or some other way?

I feel that this is important for the sake of creating better standards here.--DarkLantern (talk) 04:48, May 21, 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for a message

Hi Darkchylde! It is surprising that I was actually thinking to contact you last night to apologize for my edits and reverting (it is too late for now though). Yes, I agree with everything you pointed. I did revert about Gostir because I just thought "OK" to put character information of basic, and no big reasons anyway. And thank you for cleaning up pages as well. From my point of view, however, I believe it is vital to add references even for famous images, and I cited those images from websites I added as references. Please consider about image references. In addition, I summarized dragons' body weapons as "natural body weapons" because I used to see 'fangs', 'wings', 'tails', 'claws', etc. on the same column and I thought it is too much. Sincerely. DreamBrisdin (talk) 03:28, May 28, 2014 (UTC)

The Seven

Hey while reading some of the articles I noticed two things, I was able to correct the part about Nogrod and the Firebeards, but on the rings of power the 7 were unable to extend the lives of their wearers according to Return of the King Appendix A section III pg 394 "But they were made from their beginning of a kind to resist most steadfastly any domination. Though they could be slain or broken, they could not be reduced to shadows enslaved by another will; and for the same reason their lives were not affect by any Ring, to live longer or shorter because of it. All the more did Sauron hate the possessors and desire to dispossess them."

Could you remove the lifespan, gender and peter jackson films links from this Template:Infobox Non-canonical Character since it is locked to me since I am not an admin here yet.OnePieceNation (talk) 13:59, January 9, 2015 (UTC)

No don't remove the section just make sure it isn't a link anymore since now all three of them show up on the first page of Special:WantedPages with 270+ dead links each. PS:I have been lurking around here for a long time finding something to do and I finally found something, namely making all the wanted pages.  OnePieceNation (talk) 13:04, January 10, 2015 (UTC)

Yeah you did it only this Template:Infobox Character has the same problems also why are the 6 different character templates just asking?OnePieceNation (talk) 14:58, January 10, 2015 (UTC)

House of Eorl additions

I'd like it if you would include the sons and one unnamed daughter of Helm Hammerhand to the House of Eorl lineage template. They may have not lived to rule but they were Princes and Princesses of Rohan, and thus important. Their names are Haleth, Háma, and the unnamed daughter. When it is convenient.--DarkLantern (talk) 15:51, February 1, 2015 (UTC)

Calendar problems

When it comes to the days of the year I am certain once I get started on the letters of JRR Tolkien all of them will be filled in. However when it comes to the years of age of the world I am not so certain however consciously or unconsciously the decision was made here to make pages for individual years and allow them to be made. And I am of the notion if you make one page for a day, you should make a page for every day in order to have completion and in order to end redlinking. So yeah many pages will remain empty one way to reduce the amount of empty pages is to decide to only make pages for every decade or only for every century. What is the best way to discuss this on this wiki?OnePieceNation (talk) 00:05, February 3, 2015 (UTC)

Please don't delete OnePieceNation's empty dates pages just yet. Let's see what develops or what this user can come up with, provided the user can justify it. Thank you.--DarkLantern (talk) 19:02, February 3, 2015 (UTC)

On Matters

Those armour articles were not cited for deletion. You should not be deleting most things just like that without some kind of explanation other than it don't want them here. Yes, I personally think that some of these movie non-canon are bit questionable, but I rarely give them the chop just like that unless there is a really good reason. If you don't believe the article is really necessary, then mark it for deletion and talk it thru for a time and if no responses then you would or could delete it. We must try to be fair. You might be right about that Gundabad Ferret thing I can see no real proof it exists. Due to people having problems understanding how page should be laid out and what is the correct infobox to use, I may create a model/example page to show them how it is to be done. Also, if you've seen what I wrote in Forum:Articles to be merged on Goblins and Orcs, and Black Uruks and Uruk-hai. You must know that if no one gives any other words on those merging matters then I will merge them once and for all. It is utterly ridiculous that these matters should be held up for so long. Let me know if you wish to help because the matter will most likely be closed very soon.--DarkLantern (talk) 23:41, February 9, 2015 (UTC)

Hi, thank you very much for your daily effort to make this wikia better, and I really appreciate and respect your contributions a lot. I want to apologize for my last edit on Dragons to revert your last edits. I personally recommend that you can talk on talk page of Dragons about whether to delete or change images and so multiple editors of different perspectives can discuss together. Thank you anyway! Elves Template

It's good but I think you should keep the Elven Kindreds and their Realms separate. One called Elves and the other Elven Realms.

Your template brought me back to a revised Rivers of Arda I was once thinking of before you ever became Admin but had not the skill, that would be separated into things like: Rivers of Aman, Rivers of Middle-earth (a huge undertaking since there are so many), separated into Rivers of Beleriand, Rivers of Eriador, Rivers of the Shire (sub of Eriador), Rivers of Rhovanion, Rivers of Gondor, and of Mordor. This would make these two obsolete {{RiversofArda}} and {{RiversofBeleriand}}. How does that sound?.--DarkLantern (talk) 15:02, February 15, 2015 (UTC)

It is a good start. Don't forget the The Water of the Shire.--DarkLantern (talk) 14:50, February 16, 2015 (UTC)

Non-canonical battles and Rivers template

The non-canonical battles should say in my opinion. There is also a problem in whether all of them are indeed non-canon. Conjectured battles are allowed as some are mentioned in book but lack a definite name like Battle of the Firth of Drengist. Attack of the Spiders could or would qualify as a real battle because in the Flies And Spiders chapter it does mention a 'battle' getting started see: Talk:Attack of the Spiders. I suggest we take our time in dealing with those things.

Also, I'd like to use your new and improved Rivers template but it was suggested by another that the 'Beleriand' section be below the 'Rivers of Middle-earth' part. I think it should be as the Beleriand was part of Middle-earth. It also may not be finished as yet, maybe. There don't seem to be any known rivers in Aman.--DarkLantern (talk) 00:58, March 1, 2015 (UTC)

Request for help

Hi Darkshylde. I approved your request, and I'm here to help. Normally, I don't approve a request if there are any uncategorized pages, but because there are only 18 (out of 5,600 total pages) and because most of them seem to be either incomplete, newly created pages or failed redirects (using italics on the name of the page being redirected to breaks the redirect), I approved it. That said, I would encourage you guys to review all of those uncategorized pages and deal with them accordingly.

As for the background, take a look at this preview fading to a black background color. If you want to use it, I'll be happy to upload it. Otherwise, let me know if you want me to change something. JoePlay WikiaStaff2.png (talk) 21:38, March 2, 2015 (UTC)

Stewards Template and Goblins and Orcs

I really wish you would have kept 'white' bar for the Stewards Template because when I created it, it was supposed to symbolise the White rod that was the Stewards symbol of office. Also, the Goblins and Orcs merge needs attention.--DarkLantern (talk) 23:02, March 14, 2015 (UTC)

Also, please do not change the color schemes for {{stewardsII}} (White Rod) and {{ChiefDunedain}} (Green and light brown for the woods they lived in). Also, the infoboxes used for people like Ferumbras Took II has you citing his reign time but that infobox says that the | rule = section is for Kings and Queens only. Was Ferumbras Took II a king?--DarkLantern (talk) 11:14, March 15, 2015 (UTC)

A head's up on the animals and Orcs and Goblins merge

I just wanted you to know that I merged the two animals into a list called List of animals. It will be a job merging the text into the list but not a hard one. It seemed that although many people voted delete or keep it seemed that my idea for one big list was favoured, so I just went ahead and did it see: LOTR:Articles for deletion for my comments on the subject. I believe I am right about resolving this long held-up subject but I'd still like you thoughts. Lastly, the Orcs and Goblins needs to be done, hopefully soon because it is long over due. I mean I could just cut and paste Goblins text into Orcs without any thought but that would be unprofessional. It needs some thought by an experienced writer with good Tolkien Mythology knowledge. There will also be a big announcement about this major change to make it clear that this is the way it is, links will need adjustment, and the Category:Goblins will have to be deleted.--DarkLantern (talk) 06:48, March 19, 2015 (UTC)

Yes, you can do that for the wiki. Remember to leave redirects in the old articles to aid the visitor in finding them again or for the first time, and try preserve as much text as you can from old articles.--DarkLantern (talk) 12:41, March 19, 2015 (UTC)

Hi, - Darkchylde

Hi, it's me again. I have a few things that I want to talk about. First, should Phial of Galadriel rename into Light of Ëarendil? I searched the whole page but I can't see anything related to Ëarendil. Is this page really talking about the phial that Galadriel gave Frodo in Lorien or something else? So this is my first doubt. Second, I want to ask how can we judge a character is main character or not? I saw Barliman Butterbur, Elfhelm and Forlong and some more characters that only shortly appears in one book or two credited as main characters. But Bilbo Baggins or Shadowfax, such main character that cannot be omitted from the plot were categorized into Minor Characters. This makes me be very doubtful.

And I also suggest to update the main page. As the last edit was one year ago "indeed is about 4 months ago", it will give visitors a bad impression as they may thought this is an desolated Wiki.

Moreover, I think we can hold a book quiz. If possible, we can linked with other Book Wikis, for example Narnia Wiki, to have a Cross-Wiki Book Quiz. It will be fun for users to join. Although it is just a suggestion, I still want to know what do you think about this, both my doubts and the suggestions! ---- Prince of Erebor’’’-(Reply Press Here)

RE:My suggestions and doubts

Okay, - Darkchylde. I will fix the major characters soon and I will set a list of poll questions for you soon. I already got some nice questions in my mind. Moreover, a personality quiz will also be great, perhaps we may postpone the book quiz to the 10th-year anniversary. We may discuss this with DarkLantern too.
But I now have two more questions based om infoboxes. First, should Person Infobox add "Siblings"? Second is since I know here is a book first Wiki, should the object infobox add first and last book appearance besides film appearance. For example, I just update Narya page. But this ring had never appeared in the film. So I have this advice. ---- Prince of Erebor’’’-(Reply Press Here)

Infobox add-ons and other matters

I've been reading what User:Prince of Erebor was saying about hobbit infobox add-ons (siblings, parents, etc) but the same would have to done to the others. I was already going propose adding a 'language spoken' to them. The color schemes should stay because I designed them with a purpose in mind like the Stewards of Gondor navigation bar. If done, it would be an enormous undertaking in upgrading the more then 600 some characters total. Thoughts?--DarkLantern (talk) 18:30, March 26, 2015 (UTC)

Yes, I'd say add parents. Why have siblings add children if you are not going to have the parents. The lineage denotes a much further back family members lineage.--DarkLantern (talk) 04:25, April 1, 2015 (UTC)

I also am skeptical about individual animals being called 'Characters'. However regarded (ex. Bill), they are not really sapient as in intelligent and thoughtful like a person as in the Children of Ilúvatar.--DarkLantern (talk) 18:30, March 26, 2015 (UTC)

Proposal on Main Page poll and Major Characters

Hi - Darkchylde, here is my thoughts about the polls and major characters catgory.
First, here is the sample survey questions:
Polls: 1) Who is your favourite Gondorian? 2) What games have you played before that is related to Middle-Earth? 3) What do you think of The Hobbit Extended Edition? 4) Which book do you like most? 5) What do you think about Shagrat after War of the Ring? 6) If you are an Elf of Middle Earth, would you choose to depart? 7) Which The Hobbit chatacter do you want him/her to appear in The Lord of the Ring? 8) What do you think about the amendments of The Hobbit film adaptations? But I think it will be great if a short Did you Know section:
Did you know?? 1) Did you know 3 people were arrssted because of trying to broke into The Lord of the Rings filming location? 2) Did you know John Ryes-Davies, Gimli's actor, hate Gimli's make up so much that burns it on the last filming day. 3) The final day of filming on the trilogy actually happened over a month after this movie was theatrically released, and three weeks after the 2004 Academy Awards. Peter Jackson arranged to film one final shot of skulls on the floor in the tunnel of the Paths of the Dead, which was included in the Extended Edition of ROTK. He thought it was funny to be doing filming on a movie that had already won the Best Picture Oscar. 4) Did you know Sam's actor, Sean Austin is a Christian and Ejiah Wood is either a Catholic or a Christian.
Second, here is some characters that I think they should be included in the category. Here is the list: Frodo Baggins, Samwise Gamgee, Merry Brandybuck, Pippin Took, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Gandalf, Boromir, Bilbo Baggins, Elrond, Arwen, Galadriel, Sauron, Saruman, King Theoden, Eomer, Eowyn, Faramir, Denethor, Imrahil, Erkenbrand, Treebeard, Quickbeam, Glorfidel, Gwaihir, Fredgar Bolger, Witch-King, Shadowfax, Elladan and Elrohir.

What do you think? ---- Prince of Erebor’’’-(Reply Press Here)

Hello Darkchylde,

I'm new in this page. And when I did my first edition in "my page" y received a message from you saying that I should write to you and explaining how I met the wiki. That's why I'm writing.

I met the page when I was editing a page in the Spanish version of this Wikia: "Tolkienpedia". That wiki is so young, it only hve 1000 pages, whereas you have more than 5000... (let me congratulate you for that).

Since my native language is Castilian I think that it would not be convenient to edit many articles on this Wikia, but I'll do my best.
