The One Wiki to Rule Them All
This article refers to the Hobbit family. For other namesakes, see Underhill (disambiguation).

Underhill was a Hobbit family name with branches in both the Shire and Bree. By the late Third Age, there was a Bree-hobbit family in Staddle which went by that name.

Mr. Underhill was the name used, on the advice of Gandalf, by Frodo Baggins during his travels when he did not wish to be identified.[1] This proved not to be the best name, as during his time in the common-room of The Prancing Pony, there were some Underhills in Bree who heard of Frodo's alias and believed it was likely that he was one of their long-lost cousins. Despite this, there were some Bree-landers who questioned Frodo on where in the Shire his branch of the family lived.[2]

It is known that in early TA 3019, one of the Underhills from Staddle died defending Bree against Ruffians, in early TA 3019.[3]
