Tolman Gamgee was a Hobbit of the Shire. Born in FO 21 (SR 1442), he was the seventh son and thirteenth and final child of Samwise Gamgee and his wife, Rosie (née Cotton) Gamgee. His eldest sibling, Elanor, was twenty-one years his senior.
There were two other family members with whom Tolman shared his name. First was his uncle Tolman Cotton Jr., and then his maternal grandfather Tolman Cotton. Both them fought in the Battle of Bywater.
His grandfather Tolman was known as Farmer Cotton, and was a great leader for the lower class of the Shire.[citation needed]
Frodo did not foresee Tolman to Sam.[1]
