The Tale of Eärendel (also known as the Great Tale of Eärendel or Lost Tale of Eärendel) is the name of the last of J.R.R. Tolkien's four "Great Tales" (which also include The Children of Húrin, Beren and Lúthien, and The Fall of Gondolin). Tolkien never wrote a specific version of the story, and only hinted in various notes at the tale's full continuity. Portions of it are given in various publications.
The story concerns the Half-elf character Eärendil, his adventures, and the ending of the First Age.
The tale first appeared as the subject of the fifth chapter of The Book of Lost Tales Part Two accompanied by Christopher Tolkien's commentary, and evolved into the final chapter of the Quenta Silmarillion.[1] It is touched upon in the 2018 release The Fall of Gondolin.
