The Palantíri is the third chapter of Part Four of Unfinished Tales.
Summary[]
This chapter relates a history and description of the palantíri, seeing-stones used by the Dúnedain, including the reasons for which the stones were eventually neglected and lost. Some detail is given to Saruman's acquisition and usage of the Orthanc-stone, as well as Gandalf's understanding of its importance after Peregrin Took discovered the stone in Isengard. Additionally, Denethor II's experience with the Anor-stone is explored, as well as the inner workings and manner of usage of the stones.
