This article is about the online-based game. For the tabletop RPG, see The One Ring (roleplaying game). Additionally for the ring itself, see One Ring. |
The One Ring was an online-based game currently available on the Facebook platform, set in the world of Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. It was released on November 6, 2009. The game appears to have gone defunct sometime after 2011.
History[]
The game has been created by Microcosm Games under license by Middle-earth Enterprises (previously Tolkien Enterprises). Players take on the role of one of the characters of The Lord of the Rings and explore the world of Middle-earth, battling enemies and completing encounters in an attempt to defeat the Sauron and so win the game. The game is turn-based: the player submits orders, then after a short wait can see the results. This is in comparison to most other real-time games where the action takes place as the game is played. The basic version of the game is free to play, whilst users have the options of paying for various additional options by micro-payments.
