The "Original Motion Picture Soundtrack" of Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy refers to the order of the music of the films in their final, cinematic renditions as heard throughout the three films. The soundtracks were orchestrated and produced by Howard Shore, from 2000 to 2003 - he also composed all of the music except for the credit songs: "May It Be" by Enya, "Gollum's Song" by Fran Walsh, and "Into the West" by Annie Lennox.

Most of the soundtracks were performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. London Voices, the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, certain actors from the films (such as Viggo Mortensen and Billy Boyd), and professional singers also were featured.

The "Complete Recordings" are the larger, more thorough compilation of the earlier renditions of the same music, making up ten hours of orchestral music total.
