Edition with Tolkien's dust covers Edit
Hey fellows, is there an illustrated edition (by illustrator Alan Lee) with Tolkien's dust covers?Bill565 14:06, June 9, 2011 (UTC)
Influences, allegories, etc. Edit
In the foreword to the second edition of the book, Tolkien makes it very obvious that The Lord of The Rings is not meant as an allegory for anything. He says that the story began before World War 2 and that regardless of the wars path, the book would stay the same. He gives a very good example of what the story would be like if it were influenced by World War 2. He says "As for any inner meaning or 'message', it[the book] has in the intention of the author none. It is neither allegorical nor topical." I do not know where the idea that it is influenced by world war one, religion, etc. comes from, but any influence is subconscious. Just saying. 22.214.171.124 06:14, February 1, 2012 (UTC)
I see that the influences section makes it clear that Tolkien disliked allegories, but i think this should be here anyway as reference if somebody tries to say otherwise. 126.96.36.199 06:18, February 1, 2012 (UTC)
Orcs vs Goblins
I just wanted to make a correction. In the hobbit, goblins are a whole different creature than orcs.

There is no Irish translation, and the title "An Tiarna na bhFáinní" is blatantly wrong anyway. Correctly, it would be "Tiarna na bhFáinní".184.108.40.206 12:17, March 29, 2018 (UTC)
Translations around the World (Balkan) Edit
This is my first time on this page and I have to point something out which has rubbed me the wrong way as a translator. Though I greatly appreciate the translations provided in articles, I have to point out that neither The Lord of the Rings nor The Hobbit were ever translated into Bosnian. They were, however, translated into Serbian and Croatian several times and these translations were reprinted by Bosnian publishing companies, but a completely original translation was never produced. Translating 'The Hobbit' is actually the topic of my MA thesis I am currently working on. In my opinion, using any of the existitng Croatian or Serbian translations in place of Bosnian would be fine, but some of the translations I came across (e.g. Witch-king of Angmar) are just nonsensical.
