I put the article about Gothmog the Pelennor commander at Gothmog (Lieutenant of Morgul), whereas I left this article at Gothmog, because I felt that Gothmog the Balrog was more important than Gothmog of Unknown Species. Does that sound ok?Wstonefi 19:20, 15 April 2006 (UTC)
Gothmog equal in rank to Sauron?[]
I'd like a source for claiming Sauron and Gothmog were of equal positions. It's been some time since I fully reread The Silmarillion, but I don't ever recall Gothmog the Lord of Balrogs as being something other than simply the High Captain of Angband. It seems more like this Sauron-Gothmog ranking system is a theory, which, however logical it may be, is unconfirmed by official material. If it is mentioned in The Silmarillion or The History of Middle-earth (possibly some of the few novels of the series which I yet lack) then I shall stand corrected.
