It seems to me unlikely that Ceorl is this character's name, but rather the term "ceorl" or "churl." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Churl
Theoden addresses him as "Ceorl" once, and thereafter as "this man." It seems unlikely that Theoden would know the name of this random, lowly soldier, especially as there is no indication that he is a noble. Instead he uses 'ceorl', or landowning peasant, to refer to this man, which is fitting with the Anglo-Saxon themes of the Rohirrim.
