Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of the Rings Game is an upcoming videogame set in Middle-earth.
Description[]
Tales of the Shire is a life-sim, focusing on Hobbit life in Bywater,[2] which is not yet an official village of Hobbiton.[3] Players can create and personalize a Hobbit character in a cozy setting, engaging in activities like farming, fishing,[2] foraging, gardening, cooking, and trading, all while working to help Bywater.[3]
Each player has a Hobbit hole with grid-free customization. This allows players to put furniture and home decor anywhere they want, however they want. The Hobbit hole can be used to store crops and flowers, and the player can host dinner parties with other Hobbits. The game also features weather and season systems, which will affect the player's daily routines.[3]
A "Hobbit Day Showcase" on September 22 gave more information on the game. About a week before the showcase, the developer announced the game was delayed from an expected 2024 release to early 2025[4] On September 22, it was announced that the game was set to be released on March 25, 2025,[5] but was announced in February 2025 to be delayed again to July 29, 2025.[1]

Notes[]
- News broke in May 2024 that the game's publisher, Private Division was probably not going to live past the release date and was effectively killed by its parent company, Take-Two Interactive.[6]
- In early November 2024, it was reported that Private Division was sold to an unknown buyer by Take-Two Interactive.[7] In early 2025, the purchasing company was revealed to be Haveli Investments and Tales of the Shire would be distributed by a yet-to-be-named label.[8]
- Apparently, Tales of the Shire was going to be distributed by Netflix Games with an announced release in Fall 2024, but was pulled at some point.[9]
