A talan, also known as a flet, was an open platform built in a mallorn of Lórien as a living place for the Elves. It was reached by a ladder through an opening in its center. A light screen could be fixed to any side of the platform to block the wind.[1]
In Caras Galadhon, these platforms also functioned as the floor of the place in which the Fellowship first met Galadriel and Celeborn.[2]
Etymology[]
Talan, plural telain, is a Sindarin word. "Flet", as the platform was known in Westron, is an archaic English word.
