- Cirion, the Steward of Gondor, sent summons to the Éothéod for aid in throwing off a combined invasion of Men from the northeast of Middle-earth, and Orcs from Mordor.
- Borondir, messenger of Gondor, presents the Red Arrow to King Eorl the Young.
- Eorl the Young, the Lord of the Éothéod, answered the summons, and arrived unexpectedly at a decisive battle at the Field of Celebrant. As a reward, Eorl was given the plains of Calenardhon, and he moved his kingdom there.
- Celebrían, daughter of Galadriel and Celeborn on her way to Lórien is waylaid in the Redhorn Pass by orcs, and is tormented receiving a poison arrow. She is later rescued by her two twin sons Elladan and Elrohir and healed by her husband Elrond.
