- The Third Age begins[1] after the defeat of Sauron in the War of the Last Alliance and the taking of the One Ring by Isildur.[2]
- After the War, most of Arnor's forces return to Eriador. Isildur remains in the south and proclaims his High Kingship over both Arnor and Gondor.[3][4]
- Isildur restores order in Gondor and rides about its boundaries. While visiting Anórien, he creates the Tomb of Elendil upon the hill of Eilenaer, thereafter called Amon Anwar.[3][5]
