Skirditaila was the script of runes used by Edain for to write Taliska, their own language.
History[]
Runes were invented by Elves. In particular, Cirth and Angerthas, the first two runic alphabet, were invented by Daeron, the minstrel of Thingol, the High King of the Sindar.[1] Both Dwarves and Men later reused the runes adapting them to their respective languages.[2]
Etymology[]
Skirditaila means "runic series" in Taliska.
In other versions[]
In a earlier version of the legendarium, the runes were invented by the Danians, who were part of the Noldoli, the group of Elves who possessed a special aptitude to inventions. After the death of their king Denethor, many of the Danians were incorporated in Doriath.[2]
