Sindanórië, or Sindanóriello, was the "name of a mythical region of shadows lying at outer feet of the Mountains of Valinor" in Aman.[1]
History[]
Sindanórië was briefly mentioned in "Namárië", the lament that Galadriel composed in the Third Age. In the poem, darkness flowed out of Sindanórië to lie on the waves separating Galadriel and Varda.[2]
Etymology[]
Sindanórië is a name in Quenya meaning "land of greyness",[1] consisting of sinda ("grey"),[1] nōrë ("land, country"),[1] and -ië ("abstract noun, adverb").[1] Sínda-nṓrië́-llo ("out of a grey country") and Sinda-nōrie-llo ("grey-country-from") were variations of Sindanórië.[3]
