Silvan Elvish was a language used by the Silvan Elves of Mirkwood and Lothlórien.

History[]

Silvan Elvish originally developed as a dialect of Nandorin. The Silvan Elves had been Teleri, and split off from the rest during the Great Journey, daunted by the prospect of crossing the Misty Mountains. After this, the Silvan formed their own Elvish dialect. It was later spoken throughout Lórien and Mirkwood. As Sindar Elves traveled to Silvan realms in the Second Age, the language fell out of use in favor of Sindarin.

By the end of the Third Age, only a few names, such as Caras Galadhon or Amroth, were influenced by Silvan Elvish.
