Signum University is an online academic institution, founded and presided over by Corey Olsen. It aims to foster an affordable, "vibrant and open" academic community, and is known for offering courses on J.R.R. Tolkien and his work. Its curriculum combines focuses on literature and language, primarily offering, as of 2021[1], a Master of Arts in Language and Literature.
Its first classes commenced in 2011, and the school became a university officially in 2012.[2] Signum University's faculty and lecturers have included Tolkien experts such as Verlyn Flieger, Tom Shippey, Christopher Vaccaro, Douglas Anderson, Michael D. C. Drout, Andrew Higgins, and Dimitra Fimi. Currently, there are 32 staff.
The Mythgard Institute is a free, non-degree, online program of Signum, started by Corey Olsen also in 2011. It also offers extracurricular education for youth, through Signum Academy.
