A map of Middle-earth with the sea before the changing of the world as depicted in Karen Wynn Fonstad's Atlas of Middle-earth

The Sea of Ringil was a great inland sea of Arda that existed before the Changing of the World.

It is believed that the sea was formed from the meltwaters or the waters flowing in from the Eastern Sea that came after the destruction of Ormal.

Not much is known of this Southern Sea. In many books it is not shown, and others just briefly show it. It is possible that it was one of the many landforms (like its relative, the Sea of Helcar) that was destroyed either with the sinking of Beleriand or the changing of the world.
