Sarah McLeod is a New Zealand movie and television series actress, most famous for her portrayal of Rosie Cotton in the The Fellowship of the Ring and The Return of the King films.
Biography[]
Career[]
McLeod worked with New Zealand director Peter Jackson before she landed a role in The Fellowship of the Ring. In 1995, McLeod starred in a mockumentary with Jackson titled, Forgotten Silver where she played May Belle. Peter Jackson directed and starred in this film with Costa Botes as co-director and co-star.
The film met critical acclaim with Jackson's stardom being lifted once again after the release of his films Heavenly Creatures (1994) and Braindead (1992). Through Forgotten Silver, McLeod and Jackson became friends.
McLeod has done commercial work and appeared on William Shatner's A Twist in the Tale and Get Real.
After marrying in the late 1990s, McLeod took a break from acting until hearing that Peter Jackson had started producing a new film in the mid-1990s.
The Lord of the Rings[]
Upon learning of the plan of a film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, McLeod auditioned for the role of Rosie Cotton while she was six-months pregnant with her daughter. Jackson allowed McLeod to audition and four months later, McLeod was given the role. Since McLeod's daughter Maisy was born while The Lord of the Rings was in production, Jackson allowed McLeod's daughter to be within The Return of the King, playing Rosie and Sam's baby as seen at the end of the film, when she was twelve weeks old.
As of today, The Lord of the Rings is McLeod's most notable career mark.
Current status[]
She currently lives in Auckland, New Zealand with her husband and two daughters.
