The Sammath Naur was a structure and hall upon and within Mount Doom, at which Frodo met his final struggle against the One Ring.
History
Sammath Naur was located in the Cracks of Doom. Sauron forged the One Ring in the mid-Second Age there, and this was the only location in which the One Ring could be destroyed. Therefore, it was the destination for Frodo Baggins and the Quest of the Ring.
The final fated drama that put an end to the One Ring and to Gollum was played out in this chamber of doom, after which it was destroyed, along with the mountain.[1]
Etymology
Sammath Naur is Sindarin for 'Chambers of Fire'.[2]
