"Now, if you don't mind, I'd just like to sit a while; watch the sun come up."
Sadoc Burrows

Sadoc Burrows was a Harfoot of the Second Age, and a contemporary of fellow Harfoots Elanor Brandyfoot and Poppy Proudfellow.[1] He led their nomadic village as a Trailfinder while they dwelt in the Rhovanion Hills.

Biography[]

A kind yet cautious leader, Sadoc served as Trailfinder for many years, at some point losing his wife Daffodil to wolves during a migration.

Sadoc oversees the migrations of the caravan, being in possession of a Star-book which was passed down from Trailfinder to Trailfinder. He oversaw the organization of the Harvest Festival while in Norfield Glen, while keeping a suspicious eye on the skies after what appears to be a meteorite falls near the camp. The meteorite is, in fact, the enigmatic Stranger, who eventually follows Elanor back to the village, seeking information about a strange constellation. After Sadoc reluctantly punishes Elanor's family by putting them at the back of the migration caravan, though the Stranger assists the Brandyfoots in keeping up.

Sadoc leads the village from Norfield Glen eastward to the Grove at the beginning of autumn. Along the way, the Stranger gains the trust of the Harfoots by saving Malva, Elanor, and Poppy from a trio of strange wolves. The orchards of the Grove, however, have been ruined by fallout from Orodruin, and though the Stranger heals the trees, he voluntarily leaves after the effort nearly harms Elanor and her sister Dilly. That night, the Harfoots see three evil mystics following the Stranger, and find their carts burned after Elanor attempts to oppose them. Sadoc agrees to go with Elanor, Poppy, and Marigold to warn the Stranger of his pursuers, but when cornered by the evil women, Sadoc is mortally wounded by the Nomad. The Stranger saves the others by disintegrating the mystics, but Sadoc dies as the sun rises, believing he will soon see his wife again.

Behind the scenes[]

The character was created for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, and as such is non-canonical. He was portrayed by British actor Sir Lenny Henry.
