The Argonath along the Great River
There were many rivers in Middle-earth and elsewhere. The largest river was the Great River which flowed from the Misty Mountains to the sea, and passed by Rohan, Gondor and many other lands. During the Third Age, with Mordor in control of Ithilien, it marked the de-facto border between Mordor and Gondor.
