Rían was a noble woman of Gondor.
Biography[]
Rían was the daughter of the Steward Barahir. When her brother the Steward Dior died childless and thus without an heir, her son Denethor I became the new Ruling Steward of Gondor. Her fate is unknown.[1]
Her name may have been influenced by the Edain woman Rían, the wife of the First Age hero Huor.
Etymology[]
The name Rían means "Crowned gift in Sindarin, from the words rî ("crown") and ann ("gift").[2]
