An American screenwriter, Patrick McKay is a "showrunner"[1] of the first season of Amazon Studios' The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. He and long-time friend John D. Payne were confirmed in July 2018 as screenwriters for the show, which first aired in 2022.[2]
McKay and Payne were temporary screenwriters for Star Trek: Beyond (2016), and have since written for Disney's Jungle Cruise. Currently they are working on an upcoming Flash Gordon film remake directed by Matthew Vaughn.[3]
