A group of Mordor-orcs led in the late Third Age by Gorbag was associated with Minas Morgul, a fortress on the border of Mordor. They were once referred to as "Morgul-rats" by an Orc at the Tower of Cirith Ungol addressed as Snaga.[1]

History[]

These Orcs answered to the Witch-king, who led the attack upon Gondor at the climax of the War of the Ring. But at the Tower of Cirith Ungol, many of them were killed by the Shagrat's garrison of Mordor-orcs over Frodo Baggins' Mithril Coat. Their captain, Gorbag, was among the casualties. Eventually, Shagrat brought the Mouth of Sauron the coat and told the authorities of Barad-dûr that some rebel Morgul Orcs were on the loose since some escaped the tower. They seemed to have better-quality armor than the other Orcs at Cirith Ungol, indicated by what Sam observes as he rescues Frodo following the skirmish.[1]
