The Oldbucks were an ancient family of Hobbits from the Marish. They were descended from Bucca of the Marish, the first Thain of the Shire and held the Thainship for eleven generations until Gorhendad Oldbuck crossed over the Brandywine River with his family and renamed them the Brandybucks.
