Naugladur was the Lord of Nogrod; the King of the Wicked dwarves of Nogrod in the earlier forms of the legendarium.
Biography[]
Naugladur, after hearing of his subject's maltreatment at the hands of Tinweilant (Thingol), hired a large band of mercenary Orcs to take Doriath, and kill Tinweilant and take the Nauglafring. After destroying Doriath and killing Tinweilant, he left, along with a caravan containing most of Tinweilant's gold and treasure. But while he was crossing the Aros river, he was waylaid by a company of Elves led by Beren. Beren and the Elves killed almost all of the Dwarves, and the rest were fleeing; but Beren challenged Naugladur to single combat. The dwarf was a formidable foe, and so the fighting lasted for nigh three hours; until Naugladur struck his foot on a rock, and Beren grabbed his enemy's sword and stabbed him with it.[1]
