Núrn was partially inhabited by Westron-speaking men that were enslaved by the Dark Lord. During the Third Age, Núrn (and it's peoples) was exploited and enslaved, so as to provide food and possibly other supplies to fuel the armies of Sauron. It's southern neighbour, Khand, also supplied Sauron's armies, but instead of with food, with mounts and horses. The Khandish people, the Variags, were not known to be as harshly treated as the people of Núrn, as they were much more warrior-based (even riding to war with the Eastern Wainriders on occassion). After the overthrow of Sauron, the peoples of this land presumably gained their freedom and might have been allowed to govern it for themselves.

Núrn is a region located in the southernmost portion of the realm of Mordor that holds the inland Sea of Núrnen

Nurn

Nurn is the only fertile land in Mordor

Núrn was a semi-arid place due to its close proximity to Gorgoroth and consisted mostly of short grass landed plains, fertile enough for farming to support the armies of Sauron, as opposed to the arid plateau of Gorgoroth, which is north-west of Núrn.[1]

History

Núrn was partially inhabited by Westron-speaking men that were enslaved by the Dark Lord. After the overthrow of Sauron, the peoples of this land presumably gained their freedom and might have been allowed to govern it for themselves.[2]
