"Mrs. Maggot, a queen among farmers' wives."
Frodo Baggins, on Mrs. Maggot

Mrs. Maggot was a hobbit and the wife of Goodman Maggot, who she lived with on their farm at Bamfurlong in the Marish region of the Shire's Eastfarthing.

Biography[]

Mrs. Maggot lived on her family's farm in the Shire, along with their sons and daughters, Goodman Maggot's dogs Grip, Fang, and Wolf, and the other hobbit members of the farm household. She and her husband offered hospitality to Frodo Baggins, Samwise Gamgee, and Peregrin Took. Mrs. Maggot served them beer, which assuaged Pippin's disappointment at missing out on the beer at the Golden Perch, which he considered the best beer in Eastfarthing.

Before Farmer Maggot left to escort the visiting hobbits to Bucklebury Ferry in his wagon, Mrs. Maggot prepared a large basket of mushrooms as a gift for Frodo.[1] Thanks to the gift, Frodo regarded her highly.[2] After reaching Buckebury Ferry, Farmer Maggot hurried home, fearing that Mrs. Maggot would worry for him as the night went on.[1]

In adaptations[]

Mrs. Maggot appears in the Gameboy Advance version of the video game The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. In the game, she offers three draughts, similar to how she serves the visiting hobbits beer in the novel. If the player stole mushrooms before entering the farmhouse, she tells the hobbits that Farmer Maggot is out looking for the thieves who stole his mushrooms.
