Merry Gamgee was the fourth child and second son of Samwise Gamgee and his wife, Rosie (née Cotton) Gamgee. He had nine younger siblings.
History
His namesake came from Merry Brandybuck, Master of Buckland, who had been a member of the Fellowship of the Ring along with his father.
He was one of the children Frodo had prophesized for Sam.
