Matt Aitken is a special effects artist, and member of Weta Digital from the making of Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings film trilogy to the present.
He was Digital Models Supervisor for The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) and The Two Towers (2002), and Models Supervisor for The Return of the King (2003). Immediate co-workers included Joe Letteri, Randall William Cook, and Brian Van'T Hul. He worked again with Peter Jackson on King Kong (2005), and then was involved later in The Hobbit film trilogy as VFX Supervisor.
Outside work with Peter Jackson and with Middle-earth, Aitken, Joe Letteri, and others of Weta Digital - now called Wētā FX - were on the crew of many Marvel Cinematic Universe films, such as Iron Man 3 (2013), Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame (2019), and Eternals. He had also served as Pre-production CGI Supervisor on James Cameron's Avatar (2009).
Atiken was educated at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand and Middlesex University in London, England. He is currently a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and Visual Effects Society.[1]
