Inside the Wade Center's library
The Marion E. Wade Center is a partial Inklings museum, research center, and repository at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois. Alongside four of the Inklings, focus is also given to Christian authors Dorothy Sayers, G. K. Chesterton and George MacDonald.
Originally a C. S. Lewis collection begun by Clyde S. Kilby in 1965, the Center grew thanks to support of C. S. Lewis expert and businessman Marion E. Wade, given in 1974. Currently, its archive and exhibit are the second-largest involving Tolkien in the United States, after that of Marquette University.
The Center's museum displays J.R.R. Tolkien's desk on which he drafted The Hobbit, and a wardrobe of C. S. Lewis. Manuscripts or possessions of Lewis, Tolkien, and their friend George Sayer are held in its archive. Its current archivist, Laura Schmidt, has interviewed Tolkien scholars Holly Ordway[1] and John Garth[2].
