Magor was the son of Malach and Zimrahin and the younger brother of Adanel. Through his father Malach, Magor was the grandson of Marach himself for his father was the eldest son of Marach. It was told that Magor was known as the 'Sword', and later his son Hathol was called the 'Axe'. He was of the House of Marach, the third and greatest house of the Edain.
When Magor's father led many of their people of the House of Marach out of Estolad and further westward of Beleriand towards Hithlum, the land that was given to the Marachians by the Ñoldorin Elf-lords of the House of Fingolfin. Some of their people followed Magor instead who led many of his father's people into the vales of the southern slopes of the Mountains of Ered Wethrin west of Beleriand.
