- "First Black Riders, now Barrow-wights! This is more than Men should have to contend with! But where there is life, there is hope. Thanks for your concern, but I will be alright. I owe it to those who have fallen to go on as best I may."
- —Luin, upon the corpse of Kilaran with Eradan, Andriel, and Farin
Luin was among the Rangers of the North who lived at Sarn Ford in the Third Age. He is a character invented for the 2013 video game War in the North.
Biography[]
Luin was a ranger and scout under the command of Halbarad. He is friends with Kilaran, another ranger.
They were sent to the Barrow-downs to investigate the mysterious events at there. On their way to the Barrow-downs, they set up camp at its entrance, and wait there a while. While they continue to investigate, they are being ambushed by the dead. Kilaran and Luin were knocked out, and carried into a temple.
When Halbarad had not heard from them, he sent Eradan, Andriel, and Farin to the Barrow-downs. When they reached the temple, they found Luin in a stone sanctuary. He awoke, and they sought and found Kilaran deeper within the temple. They believed him to be asleep, but discovered the Lord of the Barrow-downs had corrupted Kilaran and gained control of his body. The wight-lord and the corpse of Kilaran assailed the four. After a skirmish, the Lord of the Barrow-downs and Kilaran's corpse perished. After a while Luin, heartbroken at Kilaran's demise, returned to Sarn Ford with Eradan, Andriel, and Farin, and told Halbarad of what occurred.
Luin remained at Sarn Ford for awhile, and eventually joined the Grey Company to aid Aragorn. His fate is untold.
