Letter 56 is the fifty-sixth letter written by J.R.R. Tolkien and published in The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien.

Summary[]

Christopher Tolkien was in a RAF preparing camp in South Africa since January, and his dad composed routinely.

The letter had three paltry subjects. Tolkien began his letter telling about the arrival of the "Pointless Quack", Robert Havard, who had joined the Navy restorative corps and was on leave in Oxford. He then recounted C.S. Lewis and the mistake of the press about Lewis, and closed the letter with a comment about the climate.
