Letter 42 is the forty-second letter written by J.R.R. Tolkien and published in The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien.

Michael Tolkien presented with a weapon battery amid the Battle of Britain and had been harmed in a mischance amid night preparing. J.R.R. Tolkien sent him numerous letters while he convalesced in a Worcester healing facility. In this letter, Tolkien visited about the climate and an entertaining visit to a bar. He expressed that air strike notices were visit yet so far no besieging had happened in the territory. He accepted that more tumultuous times were nearing, since thinking appeared to demonstrate that Hitler must assault Britain straightforwardly and intensely before the late spring. Tolkien summoned God's gift on his child, let him know that he petitioned God for him continually, and inquired as to whether Michael required anything uncommonly.
