Letter 36 is the thirty-sixth letter written by J.R.R. Tolkien and published in The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien.

Tolkien had gotten a sovereignty check sent by Furth on February 8 for The Hobbit and he expressed gratitude toward him for it, calling it a tonic since he had the flu. Tolkien said that he would get his stuff (The Lord of the Rings) wrote and sent to him. He wanted to try to complete it before June 15 since Furth had said that they required the new story no later than that time to distribute it by Christmas.
Tolkien inquired as to whether the developed adaptation of Farmer Giles of Ham had met with any kind of regard. He inquired as to whether two more stories or any more stories of the Little Kingdom were wanted, and said a portion of the characters and a fight for a conceivable sequel.
