Lórellin, also known as Lake Irtinsa[1] and the pools of Estë, was a lake within the Gardens of Lórien in far western Valinor whose sides were wrought by the Valar of "silver and white marbles".[1][2]

Lórellin was surrounded by a forest of dark yew[1] trees shadowing it. At its center lay an island where the Vala Estë, wife of Irmo, slept during the day.[3]

Lórellin was loved by many inhabitants of Valinor, including the other Valar. One of the Maiar named Tilion, who later became the guardian of the Moon often dreamt in the lake, for it was bathed in the light of Telperion as one could sit by the lake in the tree's light.

Etymology[]

Lórellin was a name in Quenya meaning "dream pool", consisting of lórë ("dream") and the root lin ("pool, mere, lake").[4]
