Kevin Wallace (born June 19 1957) is an Irish theater producer, responsible for creating The Lord of the Rings musical with Saul Zaentz.
Biography
Kevin Wallace was born in Limerick, Ireland. In Ireland and Britain he worked as a stage and television actor with BBC, the Royal Shakespeare Company, and other theater services.
In the 1990's, Wallace produced many plays and established his own limited company, before joining Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber's entertainment company Really Useful Group, through which he led productions and tours across Europe and the Americas. A significant work was his Broadway production of Lloyd Webber's rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar in 2000, which received a Tony Award Nomination for Best Musical Revival.
Wallace and Saul Zaentz, then owner of Middle-earth Enterprises, began the making of The Lord of the Rings musical, based on J.R.R. Tolkien's famous novel, in 2005. It was directed by Matthew Warchus, with a playscript by Warchus and Shaun McKenna. This play was performed in Toronto, Canada and London, and received dozens of awards including five Laurence Olivier Awards in 2008.
Wallace was honored with inclusion into the Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance in 2011.
By 2013, Wallace's productions had been nominated for the Olivier Award for Best New Musical four times.
