Jeremy Bennett

Jeremy Bennett c. 2001

Jeremy Bennett is a New Zealand visual effects artist who served as a VFX Art Director with Paul Lasaine for Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Ringsfilm trilogy (2001 - 2003), as part of Wētā Workshop.

With Alan Lee, Paul Lasaine, Roger Kupelian, Yannick Dusseault, Gus Hunter, and others, Bennett made numerous matte paintings of scenes and Middle-earth locations in pre-production. He designed with Alan Lee the Rohirrim tapestries seen in the Golden Hall, in Edoras in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. Much of his concept works and art is shown in Gary Russell's guides to the films' art direction.[1][2][3]

"My job as VFX Art Director is to take shots handed over from Peter Jackson and integrate the live action and blue-screen footage with the environments that we create for them. The location, time of day, lighting and color palette are all elements taken into consideration and carefully balanced. The job is time-consuming but ultimately satisfying."
Bennett describing his role behind The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers[4]

Bennett received the Visual Effects Society's 2003 "Best Art Direction in a Motion Picture" award for his work, with co-designers Christian Rivers and Gino Acevedo.
