J.R.R. Tolkien: The Legacy of Middle-earth is a documentary by Michael Pellerin focusing on J.R.R. Tolkien and the origin and prevalence of his Middle-earth writings. It begins the first Appendix of the Extended Edition of Peter Jackson's film The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, and resembles the earlier documentaries J.R.R. Tolkien: Creator of Middle-earth and J.R.R. Tolkien: Origins of Middle-earth.
Tolkien scholars, linguists, and other experts discuss J.R.R. Tolkien's impetus behind the creation and progression of Middle-earth, and the themes of hope, despair, and certainty in The Lord of the Rings. They review the history of the Elves' first wrongs, the First Age, and onward.
It spans 25 minutes, and is followed by From Book to Script - Forging the Final Chapter.
