This page concerns the real world.

Into the West is the fifty-second soundtrack of the Complete Recordings of The Return of the King, and its main credit song.

It is the nineteenth track of the unextended soundtrack CD for the film, following The Grey Havens.

It is of the scene of Frodo having to leave Middle-earth and journey across the sea.

Lyrics

Lay down
Your sweet and weary head.
Night is falling,
You have come to journey's end.

Sleep now
Dream of the ones who came before.
They are calling
From across a distant shore.

Why do you weep?
What are these tears upon your face?
Soon you will see
All of your fears will pass away.

Save in my arms
You're only sleeping

What can you see
On the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?

Across the sea
A pale moon rises.
The ships have come
To carry you home.

And all will turn
To silver glass.
A light on the water,
All souls pass.

Hope fades
Into the world of night.
Through shadows falling
Out of memory and time.

Don't say
We have come now to the end.
White shores are calling,
You and I will meet again.

And you'll be here in my arms
Just sleeping.

What can you see
On the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?

Across the sea
A pale moon rises.
The ships have come
To carry you home.

And all will turn
To silver glass.
A light on the water,
Grey ships pass
Into the West.
